Passport and Visa Requirements Most participants will only need a valid passport. However, a tourist visa will be required from citizens of some countries (e.g. USA, Japan, Mexico). In this case, the visa can be obtained from the Brazilian Consulate. |

Brazilian Currency The currency in Brazil is the REAL (R$). You can check the rate to your local currency on www.x-rates.com/d/BRL/table.html
Although it is possible to withdraw money in some bank machines, not all machines are equipped with VISA and other International Bank support. You can exchange cash in most of the Tourist Agencies. Never exchange cash in the street with strangers. VISA, MASTERCARD and other credit cards are generally well accepted in all shops, restaurants and Hotels. Transportation: Belém is served by two principle Brazilian airlines: www.voegol.com.br and www.tam.com.br If you are not Brazilian, please inform your flight number, company and arrival date/time as soon as possible sending an email to: aklautau@ufpa.br . Since most taxi drivers do not speak English, we will provide transport from the airport to the Hotel on Sunday, November 04th. If you are planning to arrive on another day, please contact the organizers for other possible arrangements.
Participants coming from USA: The best choice for participants coming from USA is to fly to Manaus and then to Belem. There are daily flights Miami-Manaus and New York-Manaus by TAM airlines. Typical prices Manaus-Belém (one way): R$300,00
Participants coming from Europe: To arrive in Belém you should fly from Europe to Rio de Janeiro, or Sao Paulo, or Recife or Fortaleza and then to Belém. Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are served by most major airlines, Recife and Fortaleza for some airlines including TAP (www.flytap.com). Typical prices Rio de Janeiro-Belem, or São Paulo-Belem or Recife-Belem (one way),: R$600,00. —————————————- Participants arriving at the Rio International Airport with time for a small tour before the fly to Belém are advised to take a prepaid taxi. Prepaid taxi cabins are easily found immediately after clearing Customs. All credit cards and foreign currencies are accepted. Price around US$ 35, Airport - Copacabana.
